“I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.”  Maya Angelou

Hello / Hola!

I’m Gill Simpkin, tutor at Anglia Languages.  My language teaching career began in 1985 in a small English school in Athens, Greece.   I then moved to Catalonia, Spain, which became my home for the next 25 years.  Whilst there, I developed a love of languages through teaching English and learning fluent Spanish, intermediate Catalan and Italian.

In Spain I taught general and business English to adults and young learners.  I was also Coordinator of language programmes at EADA business school in Barcelona for 10 years.  We provided bespoke English language training for many companies and in-house English courses for adults.

Since returning to the U.K. in 2012, I have taught English and Spanish to private students and company employees on a self-employed basis.  I have also taught international students on English programmes at Essex University and Queen Mary University, and academic skills to British students.   I have also trained new TEFL teachers and done proofreading work.

I hold a BA degree, TEFL certificate, post-graduate teaching diploma (DELTA), Spanish DELE and Editorial certificate.  I am DBS checked.

I currently live in Norfolk and enjoy walking, creative writing and photography in my free time.  I also read and listen to Spanish as much as I can.

During my teaching career, I have taught many students from diverse cultures and backgrounds.  It has been fascinating to learn about their lives and work, and a privilege to help them with their English or Spanish!  I hope that Anglia Languages will give me the opportunity to meet new students and keep learning!
